Have you ever wanted to dine from your backyard without complications? Minimal weeding, intelligent, easy harvesting & care. Fruits glistening like jewels in the trees, unusual vegetables winding their way up your porch, mushrooms springing from the shady parts of pathways, massive nut masts littering your yard...

This is the food forest: an easy-to-maintain and beautiful oasis of perennial fruits, shoots, medicinals and more. Learn the fundamentals of how to create one and improve upon your natural landscaping. Get light hands-on experience designing and installing an incredible edible environment.

We'll walk the wilderness and discover how to observe it's incredible inherent wisdom. Come learn with us at Fruit, Flowers & More: Food Forest Gardening

Saturday June 15th  / 9 AM - 3 PM - Delicious Lunch provided

@Casa Samasati Labyrinth Garden (6 minutes outside Nelson)

We'll focus on:

  • Mushrooms
  • Fruit & Nut trees
  • Edible & cut flowers
  • Vines & berry bushes
  • Bamboos & perennial vegetables
  • Pollinator & natural fertilizer plants

We'll also touch on easy composting, green manures, livestock [and wildlife} integration, passive irrigation, organic patterns, land-share strategies, layout aesthetics, pruning and so much more!

This is an opportunity to re-imagine your landscape or start planning the one of your dreams. We'll be gleaning wisdom from the ancient food forests of Egypt and Vietnam and applying it to the inland rainforest gardens of the Kootenays.

We'll talk about Permaculture basics, sustainable weeding, [its real!] wildlife management, microclimates and ecologies. Then follow it up with inspiring design examples and modern maintenance plans. Creating functional and productive gardens has never been more important, come join us to discover how YOU can bring them into creation.

This is a 6-hour course with a third of the day spent outside in gardens and wilderness. Delicious lunch provided.
